“I almost don’t want to write this review in order to selfishly keep this place a secret. It is simply wonderful. The cabin is rustic and yet, still has all the amenities you need. No matter what direction you look, you are surrounded with the vibrant beauty of the Temperate Rain Forest. There are plenty of things to do and nature to enjoy.

We fell in love with this place. So much in fact, that it was really hard and depressing to leave! Michael and I married ourselves on the property where I like to call my “Don Juan” spot, the grassy cliff by the yoga deck where the old bridge used to be. It was perfect. I loved how private it is and that we were free to explore what the forest had to offer. We did meet Robbie who was wonderful. I really respect the family history that is part of the land and made sure to honor that as we made it ‘home’ for the week. We would like to come back soon and make it a regular tradition to visit. We even joked that if Robbie ever needed extra help caretaking we would seriously consider fulfilling the need! We live in our tiny house on wheels in the city of Boise. City life these days seems more and more meaningless. Being in that forest of yours really puts us back into alignment of what really matters. Thank you!! Some things I loved (besides the obvious wonder of nature) that really made the stay nice was, having a hot place to soak after adventuring in the rain or taking cold plunges in the river (we do Wim Hoff breathing and cold baths), the giant Berkey!, and the multiple places to cook food outside over fire. Also, I LOVED the yoga deck. I have a devoted exercise practice and having the deck was the most amazing place to keep up my discipline. Again, thank you Ian.”

The host and caretaker were both incredibly warm and accommodating. Both were also very communicative and available for answering questions. The cabin was beautiful and the photos do not do it justice. The property is a lush green dreamscape. I would absolutely return for another stay!

“Amazing host and gorgeous cabin. Everything was perfect and there was good communication and a lot of help working the amenities definitely worth the price. One of the best weekends I’ve ever had.”
— Jennifer - Airbnb guest

Beyond satisfied with the experience. The cabin was nestled between moss covered trees in an old growth forest and the calming bustle of a nearby creek. My girlfriend and I spent our time between our cabin, the wooden yoga pad built along the river, and the impressive community barn on the property. There’s nothing to do out there except to be and to relax, which was exactly what we were looking for. Didn’t get to meet Ian, but from all the care he put into the property and buildings, I’m sure he’d be a pleasure.

Ian’s Molalla cabin was the exact retreat we needed. The atmosphere was lush and secluded and Ian made us feel at home. It was really great having the common lodge as a place to hang out and cook dinner. We would definitely return again.

My wife and I have stayed at a myriad of AirBNB offering, the majority of them “glamping” options throughout the northwest. We’ve been impressed by almost all, but this one truly was our favorite. Why? For a couple of reasons. Firstly, the forest is simply incredible. One can, of course, find little pockets of old-growth forest throughout Oregon... but rarely is it accessible and rarely can you really enjoy it so serenely as what is available here. Two hundred and ninety acres of storybook beauty. Our little cabin was plain, simple and utterly perfect. It sat next to a crystal clear creek that babbled throughout the night as towering, moss-covered trees overlooked us. It was quite literally enchanting. Secondly, Ian, who I can only really call a “curator” of the awesome was a fantastic host. He’s remarkably personable and honestly a real joy to talk to. He has the gift of hospitality, but more importantly he has a wendell berry-esque sense of place and his joy for life and this little heaven captures you in some way. Ask him about Narwhals; ask him about Panama. Take part in whatever community occurrence may be happening at the lodge. Greet the others that you meet—they likely will inspire you. Sit on a rock amidst the creek and watch for salmon or trout. Breathe. Pray. Simply be. The Pacific Northwest surely suffers no paucity of beauty or options when one considers escape; yet amidst the blessings of having choices there will be a gravitational pull for my wife and I towards this little place southeast of Molalla, Oregon that brings us back.

This place was so great. I had a nice stay. My goal for the weekend was to get away from Portland and people for my birthday and just relax in nature and Ian and his little cabins delivered. The cabin was rustic but clean and the air mattress sleep system were comfortable and warm. Ian and his dad Bill were both very warm and hospitable and they made me feel very welcomed. I could literally see the stream from my bed, if the door to the cabin was open. I have no doubt that I will be back the next time I need to get away from the hustle of the city. Thanks Ian and Bill!

This place is a little slice of heaven. If you are wanting to escape the busy life and/or just get away for some peace and quiet this place is for you. I literally just sat by the fire overlooking the creek, watched the fish jump and even had a blue heron come by to visit. The cabin itself is exactly what it says it is. It’s rustic. If you are uncomfortable with rustic cabins then maybe this isn’t the place for you. I went by myself and felt completely safe and comfortable so it’s a good getaway for just one person. But the cabin can easily hold a group of people or family. Very happy with my stay and Ian is a wonderful host. He was there if I had any questions or concerns yet gave me space for solitude.

We loved our stay here and it was exactly what we were looking for: calm, beautiful, and secluded. Our host was inviting, communicative, and very flexible with our timing and booking. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to be completely immersed in magical forestland away from everything.

This magical forest best kept secret not far from Portland is like stepping into another reality that reenergizes your soul. The rustic cabin was a wonderful place to be at one with nature and appreciate the forgotten beauty of waking up like people used to - pop open the windows to lush green in every direction, a crystal clear river bubbling feet away from the door, and no city distractions. It is the perfect retreat for a day, weekend, or longer if you need. It is a basic but very comfortable cabin and lives up to everything (and more) that it promises.

Fresh review:

“Getting to meet Jerry and having a healing session with him was truly the highlight of my retreat at Trout Creek Lodge! He creates a safe space for you to surrender and dig deep into your true self for the purpose of healing. He is a true one-of-a-kind and genuine soul that has a true passion for sound healing and is very knowledgeable in his practice. I also got body work done by Jerry which included acupressure, reflexology, and a facial massage. It was my first time getting this type of body work done and experiencing a sound bath - I didn't know what to expect, but I was hopeful. Jerry was great at walking me through the whole experience and making me feel comfortable. I left my session feeling relaxed like never before and grateful for the experience. If you are considering booking a session, I would highly encourage you to!”
